About Us
Ang Pamantasan (AP) is the Official Student Publication of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. It is a non-partisan organization whose duties and responsibilities are to serve as the conscience of the PLM community.
In 1968, PLM’s school organ, Sunburst, was changed to Ang Hasik to make it sound more nationalistic. Even before the declaration of Martial Law, by then President Ferdinand Marcos, the publication was already critical and progressive. It was deemed to be the voice of PLM.
One notable figure in the history of this publication is Liliosa “Lili” Hilao. She was one of the editors of this publication during her time and she was the first victim of the government’s viciousness during the Martial Law. She was reported to be the first case of a political prisoner’s death and her fate to the outcry for reforms in the country.
After years of being shut down. PLM brought back its official student publication under the name Ang Pamantasan in 1978. Up to the present, Ang Pamantasan, still continues to serve the students with utmost honesty and professionalism in delivering quality news that would open their eyes to the issues, challenges, triumphs, and success of the people especially the beloved PLM students. Adhering to the Campus Journalism Act of 1991 (RA 7079), we at Ang Pamantasan strives to uphold and promote press freedom.
